You have decided it?s time to marry after dating as a single parent. And the person you?ve been dating may have children as well.
You can successfully blend your families. Here?s how.
1. New space. When bringing to families together, it may be helpful to start over in a new house. Everyone gets to start fresh while adjusting to the new living arrangements. Give each child a private space of their own for their belongings.
2. Family meetings. Regular meetings with the family are a great way to communicate issues that may arise while everyone gets used to the new arrangement.
3. Discipline. Make an agreement with your partner on how each of you will handle the discipline of each other?s children. Do not criticize your partner?s children. Explain to the children their expectations when it comes to respecting their step parent?s authority.
